Flexo Printing Technique

Flexography (or flexo for short) printing is a printing technique that uses a printing plate on flexible packaging (flex). Flexo printing is also a high-quality printing technique like letterpress printing.

There are three main elements:

The work to be printed in this edition is at a certain height from the body of the cliché (also referred to as a mold).

The raw materials of the molds used in flexo printing are elastic photopolymer materials. Because it is flexible, it can be easily bent. In this printing technique, the mould is mounted on the mould cylinder (with double-sided tape). The ink reservoir delivers the ink to the Anilox roller. The Anilox roller, at high

points contacts the remaining parts, and the high points get ink. The image is transferred onto the under-pressure material passing between the mould roller and the Decoiler.

In Flexo Printing, printing is done directly on the underprinted material with flexible printing dies. Therefore,

‘Flexo Printing’ is a direct printing technique.

Flexo printing is also a branch of the high printing system, such as letterpress printing.

Flexo printing, which is an improved version of letterpress printing, is the most widely used printing technique in packaging printing.

Flexo printing machines are (mostly) ‘ROTARY’ and print on plastic film in a coil state.

Additionally, it is preferred for printing on uneven surfaces, such as cardboard, kraft, and corrugated cardboard (carton).
